When we opened!

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 3RD NOVEMBER 2008!

On the 3rd November, 2008 Jaxon Keedwell and Emma Hodge threw the doors open to welcome ‘one and all’ into the beautiful Brakspears pub, ‘the Fox and Hounds’ in Christmas Common, Oxfordshire. Finally, a lifelong ambition is taking shape to run their own pub. In the past decade they have often talked about this dream, and now it has become a reality.  During this time they have been waiting to find the right pub which they have now found in the Fox and Hounds. It lies in the hamlet of Christmas Common, high in the Chiltern Hills of Oxfordshire.

Believed to date back to circa 1643, it was once a rustic rural ale house, but now under the guidance of chef-landlord Jaxon, it is transforming into a thriving food pub. Despite the changes, it has lost none of its charm and character. Enter a beamy bar full of simple benches, cosy corners, logs glowing in a vast inglenook always lit, cribbage, cards and pints of Brakspears traditional ales. The food action takes place in 'The Stables', a beautifully converted barn with its wooden floors, open-to-view kitchen, quirky rustic décor and French windows to the garden. Farm-reared meats, local fruit and vegetables are all on the menu which changes daily depending on the seasons and local sources. Easily accessible from (J5 M40) follow the A40 towards Oxford, after 1 mile take the left-hand turning, sign-posted Christmas Common and it is in the heart of the hamlet. Make time for walks through the beech woods, or visit Aston Rowant Nature reserve and look up to spot soaring red kites.

Dogs, Children and Muddy boots are welcome!
